from 369 reviewsUnusually sensitive to playing dynamics, and sounds wonderful over a good range of gain settings.
I never played the original Shigeharu from Caroline so I can't offer a comparison there, but I've played several Russian Big Muff style pedals, and they are generally one trick ponies. This one can be dialed in to sound great at many settings through the whole gain range. The body control in particular is voiced so well for finding the sweet spot of low-midrange content to thin, thicken, or boost the presence in the mix. It seems more nuanced and refined than a standard "mids" control you sometimes find on Muffs. Likewise, the havoc / octave functionality can add a touch of bite or be turned up for for chaotic octave textures.
This is my first purchase from Sound Shoppe and I am very happy with the experience and speed of the delivery. I plan on continuing to purchase from Sound Shoppe they are carrying pedals I wasn't even aware of.
On to the pedal:
I knew what I was getting into with the Clang V2 but I'm pleasantly surprised by how useful it is on basses as well as guitars. I've got a passive Fender 5-string, a Schecter 5-string with EMGs, and another 5-string with Nordstrom single blades that can run active and passive.
It's interesting to see how the pedal interacts with other kinds of gain and EQ pedals. My current signal chain is the DBA germanium filter into the V2, into the DG Micro Tubes Infinity. I wouldn't necessarily run them all simultaneously at full tilt but gain staging this way makes me not need a dedicated compressor and adds texture and warmth across the very different basses I own.
On guitar, I've got a tele and a semi-hollow with humbuckers. It definitely reacts differently with humbuckers than with single coils. It can be a lot but with practice it can be tamed. Playing chords with the V2 is gnarly but if you use your volume knob you can get some very warm and delicate textures. I can't recommend it enough.
Not sure what else to say other than this pedal is wonderful. I use it dialed back to add some tape warmth and dimension to my sound for the most part. But if you wanna get weird, it has everything you need. The ‘Swell’ function is also a cool feature if you want to oscillate people into madness. Bleak District 4 LYFE.
I was super skeptical at first thinking I was just scammed when I first placed my order so I emailed them and Dave responded immediately and reassured me my order was being processed and was shipped the very next day! Super fast shipping, great customer service, and the pedal I ordered came in mint condition! I will definitely be ordering from here again!!
I love this overdrive that reacts to guitar volume. It turns into a kind of fuzz face at high level and adds more grits at medium level. At lower volume, it is quite transparent and does make the guitar sound more lively/full, with slightly more meds and beautiful trebles. Very musical. Highly recommended.
I will admit that the appearance and artwork on this pedal factored heavily in my decision to purchase it. As a player who primarily plays indie pop and shoegaze, the pedal struck me as both visually appealing and simple in design. I was looking for a general overdrive pedal that would add more grit than my boost without going into fuzz territory. Upon trying the pedal I was beyond pleasantly surprised. Not only is it great to look at, but the overdrive tones were exactly what I was looking for. There is a warm grittiness that many players would appreciate, especially within the realm of indie rock. You can get more straightforward, classic overdrive sounds with higher gain, but I like using lower to middle gain settings to exploit the pedal’s sensitivity to dynamics and clarity while adding the desired amount of dirt. I play both a Rickenbacker and a P-90 solid body, and I love the sounds this pedal provides—would highly recommend!
I agree totally with the well written review posted by Nick Hopkins. This pedal blooms beautifully and has great harmonics. I love finding that hidden gem from a lesser known builder. Sound Shoppe NYC, I think likes those builders as well featuring the cool, creative tools that have that certain character that goes beyond the latest screamer or Klon clone. I saw this pedal among the top ten of 2023 reviewed by Tri Pedal Reviews on YT. The other offerings from this builder look intriguing as well.
Classic Fender-y clean reverb sound. The delay controls are great, giving you options from single repeats to nice slapback all the way to VERY trippy stuff.
Pedal is built like a tank and should handle heavy use.
I like it so much I've actually been using Moonstruck as a stand alone rather than integrating it into my board. I find this pedal alone plus natural amp overdrive goes a LONG way and gets one some great tones.
Highly recommended!
a sonic playground; i recently traded in several verb pedals, and this is one that stayed with me.. clear, vibey.. can transform from a little something extra to a sun exploding
If you’ve watched any review of this pedal on YouTube, then you’ll hear everyone talk about this extra layer of harmonic overdrive that separates this pedal from other overdrives. It’s unique and really nice. Definitely a great alternative to some of the more standardized OD circuits and sounds.
This is my first Mid-Fi pedal and it did not disappoint. I've tried several pedals to achieve that "broken" guitar sound. Mostly fuzz-types that do that gated, crackly sputter. The Faulty Channel does a similar thing, but has its own unique texture and offers control over frequencies (timbre) which is useful. You can coax a milder, more conventional grit out of the Faulty Channel but you won't find full, roaring fuzz. Instead it offers many different flavors of rattling, crackly, blown-out fuzz you won't find elsewhere.
